AstraZeneca – PAR&D Investigation Products (IPS) Building

PAR&D Investigation Products (IPS) Building

The Opportunity

Consolidate all activities, which were in three locations, into one facility at Macclesfield for worldwide supply of clinical studies of new drugs, and the control and management of bulk development drugs.

Provide efficient compliant facilities including storage, dispensing, printing, packaging, assembly, dispatch and support activities.

Meet the following Critical Success Factors:

  • Accommodate business demand for investigational products to be supplied worldwide
  • Provide sufficient capacity to cope with relatively long term volume increases
  • Compliance with current regulatory and AstraZeneca SHE requirements
  • Maintain stable temperatures in line with User Requirements
  • Validate appropriate systems to meet regulatory requirements
  • Meet AstraZeneca targets for Health & Safety, Quality, Programme and costs.

The Solution

To design and construct a new 7,000m2 IPS building that met regulatory compliance as part of a coordinated site vision and master plan study.

To design a fully automated storage and retrieval system for a range of product types.

To accommodate other office functions on the second floor within pharmaceutical and analytical R&D.

Team working created a positive “can do” attitude and eliminated traditional arrangements through the AstraZeneca “Alliance Team” approach to implementing projects.

Austin completed the project within the requirements of AstraZeneca’s brief for purpose, safety, quality and time including cost savings.
