AstraZeneca – Alderley Park Lecture Centre Fit-Out

The scientific community at the Alderley Park site required a building to provide meeting and conference facilities. These facilities were to be readily accessible on-site rather than travelling away from the business to another location.

The new building was expected to provide an experience measurably different from current on-site facilities, both functionally and aesthetically.

The new facility also required sufficient capacity for the Science Community to engage in large conferences and small group meetings.

The facility provides a series of conference and meeting rooms assembled around an entrance and concourse.

The concourse acts as a break-out area for the conference rooms and auditorium and is supported by toilet accommodation and a small catering unit, which overlooks the main piazza in front of the RA Building.

The main auditorium accommodates 280 with fully tiered seating, raised stage area and state of the art audio-visual equipment. It is fully carpeted with a feature ceiling and decorative acoustic wall panels, with armchair seating equipped with seminar desks.

On the opposite side of the concourse is a multi-functional conference suite which provides flexible space for a variety of activities. The whole space can accommodate 180 lecture style seating and can be divided into three equal meeting rooms or one third/two third combinations.

The far end of the concourse leads to a series of small meeting rooms which are divided by a small break-out and refreshment area. All the meeting rooms have a fully glazed wall overlooking parkland. The small office suite is also naturally ventilated and uses exposed concrete soffits as thermal mass storage.

Although part of the main site, a different type of environment has been created within the building by using a combination of natural stone flooring, timber feature panelling in the main concourse and feature materials in the auditorium.

Austin was engaged as an AstraZeneca Alliance Partner to provide fit-out design and construction of the high quality and high performance interior of the entire facility.
