Anglia Ruskin University – Faculty of Science and Technology

The recent £2 million refurbishment of Anglia Ruskin University Life Sciences laboratory in the David building was nominated for a prestigious S-Laboratory Award.
The S-Laboratory Awards recognise excellence in laboratory design, operation and management and are supported by world renowned life sciences bodies including the Royal Society of Chemistry and the Society of Biology.

This project involved the retrofitting of teaching and office space in a 1960’s building to create new laboratory facilities, with innovative solutions to get the most out of limited space to create 21st century flexible, multi-functional teaching laboratories for a variety of sciences. It provides a high performance interactive technical space which is bright and functional. The project incorporates commercial technology including carousel storage systems to maximise the use of floor space, providing the largest, most flexible science teaching lab on the Cambridge campus.

With a capacity of 80 students the laboratory features a number of innovative space saving and technological solutions including a Kardex Carousel storage system to maximise the use of floor space, interactive teaching technology and a large equipment preparations area.

Austin awarded RoSPA Gold Award 2014 for the 6th consecutive year

The Austin Company of UK Limited is a winner in the RoSPA Awards 2014

The Austin Company of UK Limited, of Rickmansworth, is among the winners in the RoSPA Occupational Health and Safety Awards 2014.

The Gold Medal (6 consecutive Golds) award in the prestigious annual scheme run by the Royal Society for the Prevention of Accidents (RoSPA) <> presented during a ceremony at ExCeL London on June 17.

As the UK’s family safety charity, RoSPA’s mission to save lives and reduce injuries covers all ages and stages of life. In support of this mission, the RoSPA Awards, which date back 58 years, recognise commitment to continuous improvement in accident and ill health prevention at work. Through the scheme, which is open to businesses and organisations of all types and sizes from across the UK and overseas, judges consider entrants’ overarching occupational health and safety management systems, including practices such as leadership and workforce involvement.

David Rawlins, RoSPA’s awards manager, said: “The RoSPA Awards encourage the raising of occupational health and safety standards across the board. Organisations that gain recognition for their health and safety management systems, such as The Austin Company of UK Limited, contribute to a collective raising of the bar for other organisations to aspire to, and we offer them our congratulations.”

The S-Laboratory Awards 2014 Shortlist

Austin is proud to have been involved in the design of a new Multi-functional Science Teaching Laboratory for Anglia Ruskin University, which has been shortlisted for an S-Lab Award.

The design solution responded to the brief for the provision of a flexible multi-function life science teaching laboratory and support laboratory for a minimum of 80 students within the parameters of the existing life sciences building. The result was an effective and stimulating laboratory space for students and well as a platform for Anglia Ruskin to showcase science.
