All aspects of Flexibility, i.e. ‘versatility’, ‘convertibility’ and ‘expandability’, are compared against a traditional lab concept. This fascinating Case Study describes the highs and lows of designing and constructing a new pharmaceutical production facility, to West European standards, in Bulgaria. Balkanpharma, a recent acquisition by Pharmaco of Iceland, called upon Austin to design and manage the construction of a new Tablet Production Facility in Dupnitza, Bulgaria.
The plant was designed to produce approximately 3 billion tablets per year for 20 to 30 generic formulations of plain or coated types with possible hard gelatine capsules at a later date. The
Austin Company designed the facility, specified the production process equipment and managed the procurement, costs and construction through to commissioning and validation.
